Press Release for I Love to Be Me
Press Release - For Immediate Release
Thirteen-year-old Kate Lilja authors I Love To Be Me, a book encouraging children to accept themselves as they are, for who they are – proceeds to Grand River Hospital Neonatal Unit.
WATERLOO, ON - April 29, 2010 - Kate Lilja is set to launch her premiere publication, I Love To Be Me, on Saturday, May 8, 2010. The thirteen-year-old author anxiously anticipates what hopes to be a great turnout for the event, to be held at The Waterloo Community Arts Centre (The Button Factory), 25 Regina Street South, Waterloo, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (remarks at 10:30).
The first draft of the 12-page, soft cover book was written and illustrated by Lilja when she was seven years old. She recently re-visited and finalized I Love To Be Me, and decided to donate 25 per cent of the net proceeds to Grand River Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. “When I wrote it, I was feeling self-conscious and out of place,” says Lilja. “I wrote the book to help other kids who might be feeling the same way…I want kids to know that it’s OK to accept themselves for who they are, and to know they can do anything they put their minds to.”
When Lilja was born, health issues required her to spend the first week of her little life in an incubator in Grand River’s then “Special Care” nursery, hence the reason to donate proceeds to the hospital. She hopes to sell 1,000 copies of I Love To Be Me and will autograph every book sold at the launch. She will also discuss the book and answer questions. Also present will be a Grand River Neonatal Unit representative to discuss the Unit’s facilities and operations.
After launch day, Lilja’s book will be available at Toysense Plus in Belmont Village, Kitchener and online at http://booksofgiving.com/ILovetoBeMe/
